Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance.
