Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item level upgrade upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display an image of the item at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrading upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item upgrader Mod (maps.google.hr) level will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of choices. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's Best item upgrade to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with high-quality gear.
