Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

For instance, a weapon with the upgrade template ending in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give a stat bonus or extra effect while they're in use. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, which lets players create stronger versions with fewer upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades can be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will be available during the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of how much they'll improve after a future reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a substantial chance that the item could become obsolete or even break if it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also give a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced, but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without restrictions. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and re-placed by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values that it can improve a statistic by. The value is displayed when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools and also during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the many Glyphs and there are some rare glyphs to be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus which will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes in a radius surrounding the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, so it is best to put Glyphs in key spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. For instance that a Druid should try to position their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes, however, you may also want to be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes, too.

Leveling

The item upgrading (prev) system allows players to increase the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is commonly known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of 385. Each item level requires a different number of components and the costs for upgrading increase as the item upgrade gets leveled up.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item, and once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrades an item it is replaced with a new item of the same type. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own set bonus. This could be a drawback since the item may become more expensive even if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and completely different bonuses. This can be beneficial, but shouldn't be done often as it could waste resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times, increasing their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. An excellent example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player is repeatedly in and out of the water (or does not swim as dolphins). It can be upgraded multiple times, each time increasing the maximum roll by an increment of 10. This item is very valuable in PvP. A perfectly rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of its non-upgraded version.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to boost the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets over ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate items and currency to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces increase its base defense, while upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear, which can be upgraded up to eight times. Every each time you upgrade an item it has the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the more you go over the maximum number of upgrades. Failures can result in the item upgrader mod reverting to its original state, requiring the player to pay more for materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.

If an item fails to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally, the item will lose any gained bonuses such as crit chance, attack damage, and all other effects that are associated with that effect (for instance, a higher healing over time or speed of reload). However, the user can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from lowest to highest. This means that, should a weapon gain an increase in the chance of crit the increase is applied before any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the item's definition and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading equipment that is not premium is equal to its base value. For instance an item of common use could have five upgrades at a cost. 25600 Technology Points, 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero quality items have lower costs per upgrade.

Premium items may require different upgrades than normal equipment. For instance they may require less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. The player will still need to carry each piece of gear they want to upgrade to NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each upgrade will require the use of different upgrade ingredients.
