The i3+ is an excellent option for those who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dust bin after it has filled up.

Both robots are proficient at picking up surface dirt on hard floors and carpets and are able to navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles and therefore it could be stuck on things like socks or power cords and may have issues traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests that you clean the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it might encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filters clear to avoid becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station's dust bin. Then it continues cleaning from where it left off. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half of continuous use, and takes around three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and comes with the latest features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. But the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot using the app or by voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin, which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room, and vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is a sports car. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households however, it can also fit nicely on the coffee table or the bookshelf, where you can wave it around like an enchanted tool.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels cleaner air back into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to meet the task being performed. It is able to quickly change from handheld to floor vacuum bot, and vice versa.

This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides easy access to two attachments as well as the Wand clip. This is a major improvement over earlier Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its sluggish run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is an average, not an exceptional, run time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is enough time to clean the average-sized home however, it's not enough time to reach every area. (A second time is usually sufficient). That's not to say this model doesn't have its benefits: It's lighter and mobile than the older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to invest in a best robot cleaner. It's capable of sucking up all debris types and sizes during our tests, and it often passes over the same areas many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and often is power-depleted before making it back to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways because it has fewer components that need regular cleaning It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, because it has a longer battery life, has the ability to alter its suction power mode manually, comes with physical boundary strips, and is operated by your phone's voice assistant. It is also more durable, has a more powerful motor, and works better on floors that are bare and carpets with low pile, while providing a greater variety of features for automation.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks, which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than some of the other models we tested which could be a problem for some buyers.

The app allows you to manually steer the robot when needed. My living room rug for instance, has a darkly-colored border that could cause trouble for other robots. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border without registering the edge. Also, the ability to set up weekly cleaning schedules is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
