The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic hoovers mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd think from its price. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map.
