Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot hoover and mop that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Also a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum best vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
