The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might imagine from its price. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map.
