They also have a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a good automatic vacuum cleaner cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
