In this role Bowles Rice formulates litigation strategies and manages regional and local counsel to ensure a consistent and cost-effective defence in coordination with the client's objectives. It also plays a major role in the administration and management of asbestos dockets, as well as negotiations with plaintiffs' lawyers and leading discovery for its client.

The firm's lawyers have extensive trial and appellate experience defending clients against claims by injured claimants, including those claiming mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases. Asbestos defense attorneys are acquainted with the complex science associated with these cases, and the unique legal issues that arise when defending businesses in state and federal courts across the United States.

Catherine has represented numerous manufacturers as the lead counsel in asbestos and product liability personal injury lawsuits and in consolidated cases that involve multiple plaintiffs. She has a wealth of experience litigating asbestos-related lawsuits before the federal and state courts as well as various Supreme Court and appellate courts.

While at Brobeck, Vogel worked on asbestos cases, including those involving respondents to the asbestos attorneys Claims Facility in Northern California. The case files included SEAR forms (Short Encapsulated Evaluative Reports) that contained confidential information about the plaintiffs, such as medical reports, work histories, and an inventory of asbestos-related products that plaintiffs worked with or around. Vogel was required to use a password to access the files and was able to look over the SEAR forms of any case at her current employer.

The Bowles Rice Asbestos Team, in addition to its extensive experience in trial and appellate work, is nationally recognized for its ability to negotiate settlements for its clients. In this capacity, the company collaborates with lawyers representing plaintiffs in the creation and implementation of settlement agreements, and it has extensive experience in defending businesses against appeals.
