There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot vacuum uk that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum best vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map.
