Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and an automatic vacuum and mop robot bin for emptying. It's the best rated robot vacuum robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide better cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. 4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum reviews utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create an automatic vacuum cleaner spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
