Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto vacuum and mop-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robot cleaner with mop vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its autonomous vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty those areas are.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a large furniture. Also the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
