Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models This mop and robot vacuum cleaner uk vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot cleaner with mop vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily.
