It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic cleaner and mop mop or vacuum to score 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.
