A biopsy involves removing only a small amount of affected tissue to test. This test can determine if the mesothelioma is epithelioid (epidermoid), Sarcomatoid (sarcomatoid) or biphasic.

If mesothelioma has reached an early stage doctors can remove all the tumors and provide an effective treatment. The specialist can also determine whether the cancer has been able to spread to the abdomen. They may then recommend palliative treatment for the patient, including paracentesis that drains fluid from the abdomen.

The outlook for patients is worse when a mesothelioma lawyer has advanced. The reason for this is that the tumors are able to become resistant to certain treatments, and they may recur. The doctor may suggest a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. Surgery options include cytoreduction with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
