The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum cleaner uk vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot cleaner robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot vacuums that mop makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd think from its price. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes.
