The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaners best makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better.
