The i3+ does not have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other Top rated robot vacuum-rated robots we tested. It may be stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends clearing areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include putting away any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is empty, it returns to its docking station, automatically empties its trash into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning the area where it started. The battery's life span is approximately an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes 3 hours to charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line and has the most up-to-date features. It has self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is its auto-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning robots for home jobs and direct your robot by voice or through the app.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines and to move around the room and vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, but also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that produces power without fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpets to trap large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes to suit the task that is being completed. It quickly converts from floor vac to handheld vacuum, and then back to floor.

The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments and the clip for a wand. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons, which take a long time to charge and are a pain to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its sluggish run time. Its marketing claims that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are not true as CR's tests have shown. This is a typical battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. That's still enough run time to get rid of the majority of a home that's average size however, it's not enough to clean every area (though an additional run-through often can be effective). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its benefits It's lighter and more mobile than the older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is an affordable model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to invest too much money on a robot. It was able to pick up most types of debris and sizes in our testing and often went over the same area multiple times for an extensive clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the walls' edges and walls, which is a nice addition.

Its navigation system is best smart vacuum and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top selections and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. Because of this, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and often runs out of battery power before making it back to its base.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for most reasons, since it has a better battery life, can change the suction power mode by hand, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and performs better on floors with bare or low-pile.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models that we tested, and this could be a deal breaker for some shoppers.
