1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum cleaner and mop robot vacuum for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a good job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s Robot Vacuum Cleaners Best that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some extra cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the automatic vacuum and mop works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
