The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic vacuum and mop bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure better cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot vacuum cleaners best mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance.
