They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in just a few seconds.

The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you own a large furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.
