The diagnosis of adult ADHD has proven to be complicated. Despite the advent of machine learning technologies and other tools, methods for diagnosing ADHD remain mostly subjective. This can cause delays in the initiation of treatment. To increase the effectiveness and repeatability of the procedure, researchers have attempted to create a computer-based ADHD diagnostic tool, called QbTest. It is comprised of a computerized CPT and an infrared camera that measures motor activity.

An automated diagnostic system can aid in reducing the time needed to diagnose adult ADHD. Patients would also benefit from early detection.

Many studies have examined the use of ML for detecting ADHD. The majority of these studies have relied on MRI data. Other studies have examined the use of eye movements. Some of the benefits of these methods include the accessibility and reliability of EEG signals. These tests aren't highly precise or sensitive enough.

Researchers at Aalto University studied the eye movements of children in an online game. This was done to determine whether a ML algorithm could distinguish between ADHD and normal children. The results proved that machine learning algorithms can be used to detect ADHD children.

Another study assessed the effectiveness of different machine learning algorithms. The results showed that random forest methods have a higher percentage of robustness and lower risk-prediction errors. Similarly, a permutation test demonstrated higher accuracy than randomly assigned labels.
