Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also come with carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and best robot vacuum aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic mop and vacuum robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robot cleaner with mop vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a large furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes.
