However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robot cleaner vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and produce more noise.

Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the autonomous vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.
