The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item upgrades used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and current item upgrader kit level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Many locations offer Best item upgrader upgraders in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. After the player has upgraded to a certain Best item upgrade level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. Crests

Players can earn crests by completing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
