However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots we evaluated the i3+ does not have any obstacle-avoidance features and therefore it could be stuck on things like socks or power cords and may have issues in navigating through transitions between surfaces like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clean the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it might encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dustbin and filter clean so that they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station's dust bin. It then continues cleaning from where it began. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes three hours to fully charge.

The iRobot i7+ is a top robot vacuum cleaner model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot vacuum deals through the app or voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and easy with the iRobot Home app. Once connected to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating performance.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical, not exceptional, battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. This is still enough to vacuum the majority of an average-sized house however, it's not enough to clean every spot (though an additional run-through often does the trick). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to spend on an expensive robot. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris and sizes in our testing and often went over the same area multiple times to give an extensive clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice addition.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, including our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently is power-depleted before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways in that it has fewer parts that require regular maintenance and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges quicker.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more robust, has a larger motor, and is more effective on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app gives you plenty of options to personalize your robotic vacuum cleaner commercial cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior modification, docking frequency settings, and much more. The app is simple to navigate and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It was not as successful in avoiding taller items such as socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we tested, which might be a problem for some buyers.

The app also makes it simple to manually steer the robot should you need to. For instance my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that can cause confusion for other robots I've tested.
