The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuums best we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot automatic vacuum and mop robot to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
