To increase the efficacy and reproducibility of the procedure, researchers have attempted to develop a computerized ADHD diagnostic tool, called QbTest. It is comprised of an electronic CPT and an infrared camera to measure motor activity.

An automated system for diagnosing ADHD could reduce the time required to get a diagnosis of adult ADHD. In addition an early detection could aid patients in managing their symptoms.

Several studies have investigated the use of ML for detecting ADHD. The majority of these studies have relied on MRI data. Other studies have investigated the use of eye movements. These methods have numerous advantages, including the accuracy and accessibility of EEG signals. These measures are not precise or sensitive enough.

A study carried out by Aalto University researchers analyzed children's eye movements in a virtual reality game to determine whether a ML algorithm could detect the differences between normal and ADHD children. The results demonstrated that a machine learning algorithm can identify ADHD children.

Another study examined the effectiveness of different machine learning algorithms. The results showed that a random forest algorithm has a higher degree of robustness and higher rates of error in risk prediction. Permutation tests also showed greater accuracy than labels assigned randomly.
