They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance.
