Both robots excel at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they're very adept in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we evaluated the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles, so it may be stuck on things like socks or power cords and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests cleaning up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it may encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the bin and filter clean so that they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning from where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line, and it comes with the latest features. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is its auto-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or via voice.

In our tests, the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces types including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying that eliminates a major cause of maintenance and reduces recurring costs.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room and vacuum an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After connecting, we were able to use the i7+'s voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of vacuums that are cordless and are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.

The V10 is powered with a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide power without fading for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases fresh air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large dust or crumbs. It comes with three suction settings to meet the task being performed. It quickly converts from handheld to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments as well as an wand clip. This is a significant improvement over the older Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models like our top selections such as the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and often runs out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 because it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower recurring cost and is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is better able to move its own. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. However, it did not do particularly well with taller objects like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested, and this could be a problem for some buyers.
