It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option.
