However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing some more volume and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
