They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuums that mop that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and make more noise.

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd think from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that vacuum and mop that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency.
