Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also gives access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
