They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and works when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot cleaner vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance.
