It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas are.
