However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro).
