The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we test. It could get stuck on power cords or socks and have difficulty navigating between surfaces, such as hardwood and rug.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, including clearing out any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clear so they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is depleted it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning the area where it left off. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes three hours to charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It has self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot using the app or by voice.

In our testing, the i7+ was more agile and faster than our second-placed model, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on recurring costs.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines and move around the room and vacuum an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. Once connected to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of vacuums that are cordless and are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for the majority of households, but it also fits perfectly next to a coffee table or on a bookshelf that you can spin around like a magic device.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases fresh air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large dust or crumbs. It comes with three suction modes to meet the task being performed. It quickly converts from best automatic floor cleaner vac to handheld vacuum and back.

This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in 3.5 hours, and gives users easy access to two attachments as well as an wand clip. This is a big improvement over older Dysons, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its sluggish run time. Its marketing claims that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are not true, as CR's testing shows. 4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to invest in a robot. It was able to pick up the majority of types of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area several times to ensure a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows to get into corners and along the edges of walls, which is a nice addition.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models like our Top 10 robot vacuum Cleaner choices, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It can get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and is often unable to supply power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 because it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower costs for recurring expenses and has more advanced automation capabilities and is better able to navigate itself. In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It was not as successful in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a deal breaker for some buyers.
