For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode.
