The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dust bin and place it in an additional bin at the bottom. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They feature motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top pick), they use smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot automatic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer better cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good robot vacuum cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic hoovers vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing some more volume and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot cleaner vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot cleaner with mop vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've test. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
