However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we test the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it might encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it left off. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes three hours to fully charge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin, which removes major maintenance sources and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of vacuums with cords that look like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that produces energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels clean air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpets to trap large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It quickly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back again.

This model comes with a dock which charges the Dyson to 100% within 3.5 hours. It also provides an easy access to two attachments and a Wand. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its sluggish run time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are not true, as CR's testing shows. This is a typical battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. It's enough time to clean the average-sized home however, it's not enough time to get into every corner. (A second time is usually sufficient). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its advantages It's lighter and more mobile than the older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is significantly better on low-pile carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums the 694 is an affordable model that's a great option for those who don't want to invest too much on a robotic. It could pick up all kinds of debris and sizes during our testing and often went over the same area multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges and walls, which is a nice touch.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it's not equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models like our top picks, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It may get stuck on phone cords or furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 because it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower recurring cost, is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is better able to maneuver itself. It also has a larger dustbin and can charge faster.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels better-built, has a more powerful motor, and is able to perform better on floors that are bare and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a wider array of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
