1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling the i3 EVO are the same robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great option for those looking for a an automated cleaning, hands-free cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the dust bin after it has filled up.

Both robots are proficient in removing dirt and dust particles on carpets and hard floors and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. However, unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we tested the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may get stuck on things like socks or power cords and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests cleaning the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it might come across. It is also recommended to keep the filters and dust bin clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is low, it returns to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's dust bin and continues cleaning the area where it left off. Battery life is about an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most Expensive robot vacuum powerful model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot cleaner commercial vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or via the app.

The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying, which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. After connecting to these services, we were able give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a sea of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases cleaner air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets, and then pick up large dust or crumbs. It comes with three suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. It quickly converts from handheld to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model comes with a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also offers an easy access to two attachments as well as the handheld. This is a significant improvement over the older Dysons, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its short running time. Its marketing claims that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is an average not an extraordinary run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's enough time to vacuum a typical-sized home however, it's not enough time to get into every corner. (A second time generally works). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeable superior on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of the most well-known robot vacuums, the 694 is a basic model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to invest too much on a robot. It's capable of sucking up a variety of debris types and sizes during our testing, and it often passes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps it to reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice touch.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top choices and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. Because of this, it may get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't as sturdy, and often will run out of battery before making it back to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects in that it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.

The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most reasons, since it has a longer battery life, can change the suction power mode by hand, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be operated by your phone's voice assistant. It is also more robust, has a larger motor, and performs better on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not surprising, then, that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app provides plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to use and understand as are other Samsung devices.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we've tested which could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.

The app allows you to access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's cleaning area. This feature allows you to check in on pets or children when you're away from home. The filter and the dust bin can be washed for quick, painless cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with an automatic floor cleaners clean station which helps to keep the robot's bin clear and maximizes suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Unlike other robotic vacuums, that are made for carpets and hard floors, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. The robots come with an extra-wide cleaning path, as well as dust bins that are 2X larger than the competition. This allows them to clean the area for a longer period of time.
