The outlook for patients is worse when a mesothelioma has progressed. The reason for this is that the tumors may become resistant to certain treatments and can be recurred. The specialist may suggest a combination of chemotherapy and surgery. Options for surgery include cytoreduction and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemo. This combination is more likely to improve the prognosis of a patient than merely chemotherapy alone.
