The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in removing dog hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
