Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. 3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the degree of dirt they are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot vacuum that mops to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up an automatic vacuum and mop robot spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily.
