Upgrades to items allow players to increase the gear score of an item upgrade to 700, and then add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you decide to take them to the Kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For instance the perfect broken point armor that is rolled can be used in melee PvP). Other items, like weapons don't change much after an upgrade and therefore aren't worth the effort.

Weapons

Upgrades can be made to armor items to boost their effectiveness. For instance, if you have a helm or chest, it will boost its defense base while a belt and gloves will improve their required strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it can sometimes reduce its value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats it will gain upon upgrading, along with the relative values of those stats. This means that a change from a sword with 8 damage to an 11 attack-damage sword will result in the weapon gaining 33% attack damage. However the 3% does not mean that it will strike for 3 fewer times as it is an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon can be possible by pressing the green button within the item menu using the arrows that are circling. This will reroll the item and alter its stats, but it won't reset the weapon's levels or connect to the status of your account.

Armor

A few armor upgrades can make the world of difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE boosts to poison or curse, fire, and magic resistance, which makes it easier to navigate through tough terrain. In general, the greater defense your character is, the more value you will get from each point of health and it's crucial to upgrade your armor as much as possible.

To improve your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four Great Fairy Fountains available in the game and to unlock them all, you have to complete an additional quest involving the Stable Trotters. In general, you'll need at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu Jellies and 10 Rupees for the initial upgrade item, and then anywhere from five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Horns for each subsequent one. For instance the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep up with a decent-sized group of adversaries in most cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, granting you enough protection to withstand a full on raid with a few of your friends.

Note that armor can't be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll want to concentrate on upgrading it for physical power if you're Warrior or Spell Power if you're Mage. It is also recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you will still be wearing by the end of the story, such as the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you use in the final boss fight The Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

You can also unlock some benefits to your armor by presenting the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. It is generally recommended to save these upgrades to the weapon you'll use to beat the game. For example, the Longsword or Battleaxe.
