If mesothelioma progresses, the prognosis becomes poorer. The tumors could become resistant to certain treatment and may recur. The doctor may suggest a combination of chemotherapy and surgery. Surgical options include cytoreduction surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. This combination is more likely than chemotherapy alone to improve the prognosis of a patient.
