With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to set up an automatic hoover spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency.
