Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item upgrade and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.
