It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.
